You can replicate an MS Access database ... it's not for the faint of heart
and isn't a trivial matter, however. There are several good resources for
replication (microsoft.publ ic.access.repli cation is a good newsgroup to
frequent; the Access Developer's Handbook go into replication in some
detail.

If your frontend built in MS Access, hitting an Oracle database? I assume
you could replicate the frontend, but FWIU, replication is intended to
replicate data, not design.

The only valid reason for using Jet replication these days, I
believe, is for laptops.

Jet Replication does not work well for any part of an Access
project except the data tables and queries (Jet objects).
Replicating forms and reports eventually leads to corruption and
data loss.

If you're trying to support remote users of an existing Access
application, I would say that Windows Terminal Server is a much
better option than attempting replication, which is fraught with
problems.

For what it's worth, I started using replication with clients'
applications back in 1997 and at this point, have no clients still
using it. On the other hand, one client operated an office in
London and an office in NYC, along with two outside contractors at
home in Connecticutt, using replication, and they did this for
nearly 3 years. It worked very well, but it was fragile and needed
lots of care to keep it all working smoothly.

Now I'd do the same thing with Windows Terminal Server, hosted in
the NYC office.

Hi We have an access app (front-end+backend) running on the company network. I am trying to setup replication for laptop users who go into field and need the data synched between their laptops and the server upon return to the office. I am planning it this; Move all access tables to sql server and then link the tables to access front-end mdb app (using odbc?). Copy the same setup (access front end + sql backend) onto each laptop....

Hi, I've been using an Access application I wrote for an office with the front-end stored on all computers and the back-end on one of them serving as an Access file server. Now we're moving to a 2nd office 15 minutes down the road. Only one office will be open at a time, so theoretically it'd be possible to copy the back-end manually every night from one office to another, but frankly, that's pretty annoying.

I'm running an Access2000 front end mde linked to an Access2000 back end mdb. I need to set up replication and synchronization of only the data tables between the master db on the pc and replicas on numerous laptops. I know that it can be done using the Access replication manager (although without a simple UI in the front end mde), but the question is: If I link the FE to MSDE rather to Access, can I 1.) provide a more

Hi all, I am working on portal which is using MS Access 2003 database. The problem that I am facing is that once I received data from vendors I have to upload whole Access Database file to server. Initially it is not an issue but after increasing the size of database file(nearly to 50 MB) it is now difficult to upload such file on server.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
