Adding login request to a Chrome App

I'm developing a Chrome App (previously called packaged app)

In the manifest.json file I've add the permissions to access remote servers.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. "permissions": [
  2.        "fullscreen",
  3.        "serial",
  4.     "http://*/",
  5.        "https://*/"
  6.        "identity"
  7. ]
  8.
  9.
And it works great when retrieving data from the remote server. That is when the web server does not have a log in requirement. Which is what I have on my Apache development server.

However on our production server, we have our log-in security. I need to know how to add the log-in request to my Chrome App, so the user will be prompted to enter their user id and password?
