Access Menu Disappearing and Date Format Changing in all MS Products

2 New Member
After accessing someone else's database, I now do not have any menu options available on my own databases. The designer of the other database created a utility to restore the menu on my databases, but it is only temporary - as long as I keep Access open. Further, whatever happens with the other database has actually changed the short date format on my entire computer. In addition to this, whenever I open up Word or Excel, all of the menu options in there appear in full all of the time, rather than the shortened version which normally appears when you first click on a menu option. This is all in MS 2003 version. I know it's old, but it's the best I've got to work with at work.
Thanks for anyone with a solution to these problems.

Sigh... and why we do NOT open un-requested attachments in the forums.

It sounds as if a COM add-in has been installed; however, there are other ways of damaging the installation that will be difficult to fix.

Hopefully it is the simple fix:
You can install or uninstall add-ins (add-in: A supplemental program that adds custom commands or custom features to Microsoft Office.) by using the Add-in Manager.

1.On the Tools menu, point to Add-ins, and then click Add-in Manager.
Once the Add-in Manager dialog box is displayed, the Available Add-ins list displays the add-ins that are currently available. An add-in is already installed if there is an X next to its name. If an add-in is uninstalled, Microsoft Access removes the X but keeps the name in the list.

2.Do one of the following:
To add an add-in to the list, click Add New, and then specify the add-in's location.
To install a currently available add-in, click the add-in name in the Available Add-ins list, and then click Install.
To uninstall a currently available add-in, click the add-in name in the Available Add-ins list, and then click Uninstall.
3.Click Close when you've finished.
Note You should uninstall an add-in before opening it as a database to modify its design.
What you will have to do here is look for some thing that shouldn't be there... you may need to list what is currently installed and post back if it's not something obvious.
