What serial number are you talking about?

Have you tried it?

Do I need to add serial number in AD?. Basically instead user name and password, I want to authenticate with serial number (0123456789) and passwd. where as in user name case, there is last name and first name, but in serial case, just a plain number.

What happens if you create a user with username 0123456789 and give it a password?

Have you tried it?

I don't think it matters if you create a user with username "billg" or username of "012345789". The computer shouldn't care.

I actually haven't tried using numbers as user names, but I doubt (as RedSon stated) if that'll be a problem. Regardless, AD will translate that into an SID.
See: http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/ne...14635,00.html#, for an indepth look at AD's authentication model.

I just created an account named 12345 on a XP Box. I won't be in front of an AD machine until tomorrow, but as stated, I wouldn't expect any issues... But one never knows... :-)

Just found this...
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...1_admin607.htm

Even though it's an IBM doc, I think it answers the question definitively.
