Unable to Either Boot the System or Format.

Hi friends one of my friend is using an old PC
Its configuration is 128Mb RAM.30 Gb HDD.CD writer OS WIndows 2000.

Now he wants to install windows Xp but the problem is that he is unable to boot the system.It is showing that C:\Windows\System32\Config\sytem file is corrupted to repair press r but after pressing r it again restarts and prompt the same.

It is not booting from the CD.Not even trying.I checked the system BIOS it is showing there CD-ROM drive.But he has CD writer what could be the problem?

He will have to change the boot order to have the system boot from the CD before the HD. Since it is finding a bootloder on the HD it's not continuing on when your error is encountered.

hi there, if that so, try pressing Delete button when your in the POST or just pressed the power button, you will then enter the BIOS Setup- then proceed to BOOT-> then press enter-> navigate the screen until you find "BIOS SETUP UTILITY" then set "CD ROM" as the first boot device. then PRess F10 to save and exit= now insert the CD to CDROM then Reboot the Computer, you should now get the CD loaded instead of WIndows Xp or whatever OS youre using.

As it seems to be a relatively old PC, the chance of it having a floppy drive is pretty great. So, try creating a boot floppy from another system and you should be able to boot from it.

Yes It was a great conversation but now I had checked the problem it was that just behind the CD writer there is a place to set the jumper in the master slave.But it was not now we had done that.And one more observation.If anyone PC asking for repair and it is getting restarted then it means the hard drive is corrupted.You have to change it.
