thinking process question - extracting xml values to txt file

10 New Member
Hi,

I am currently using Visual Studio 2005 using vb.net.
I am trying to extract a xml data value to a txt file.
Could someone please be so kind as to explain the logical steps needed?

As far as I have worked out I need to first load the xml file, then read it with the system.xml.xmlreader. How to extract data remains a questionmark for me.

I need desperately some help, I'm not being lazy or anything. I have spent lots of time on this and would like to move on in my code.

So far my code just copies all xml values into a txt file, this included even the stylesheet it is using.

I believe that the problem so far for me has got something to do with the xmlreader. also I'm not sure how to write this data then to the txt file.

Do I use xmlwriter or is that for writing in xml files only, or do I use a streamwriter?

Anyone with any information on this, could you please be so kind as to reply to my message as I'm very stuck.

Thank you so much.

I do not know if you still need help, but I am in a similar place.

I would say use the XmlReader because of the obvious, you are reading the XML, not writing it. Also, so will want to look into X paths. Using the XmlReader and the X path should make it possible to extract the value from the XML element. I apologize for not being specific, but this should help out your progress.
