Hi to all
I have to choose a DBMS and a database architecture for an Ebay like
website about to be launched.
The company wants to use a web hosting service and not host the
database on dedicated servers at the office.
The database will contain web-only information and lots of back end
information that is not really needed to be stored...

Hi,
Some of our customers have remote offices. I was wondering if it'd be
safe to have a DBMS running at their central office, and have our
client application running on hosts in the branches connect to it
through a VPN via the Net?
What happens if the connection goes south while a branch office was
making changes? Does the DBMS just...

.. Can you define the Character Set for particular tables instead of
databases?
. Which DBMSs would let you do that?
. How do you store in a DBMS i18n'ed users' from input, coming over
the web (basically from everywhere) store it and properly serve it
back to users, . . .?
. Can you point me to info on this?
I would preferably use...

Hello,
I'm trying to decide if the following situation would be workable:
Generate an MS Access Front End (which will run localy on client computers),
which will link to a DBMS (SQL server or Oracle). As far as I know there
will be approx. 30 till 40 users max working on the database. I think
approx. 25 users will actually enter data ...

Hi
I have been asked to implement an error logging/management database for the
network technicians in our company. The idea is that staff using
workstations can enter a database and log any problems they are having,
while the technicians can pull off details of faulty equipment. The users
will have little experience of databases so the...

Hello,
In regards to my previous posted mail on this topic: thanks for the
feedback. The 30% is told to me by a collegea. .NET is not my working area,
but it's something our company provides. So i'm just looking for our
options.
Besides the 30% more work issue I'm mostly interested in the possibility of
an Access versus DBMS (SQL server)...

Some time ago I was working with DB2/400 - and one of the most appreciated
features was the concept logical files - a bit more than views in that they
maintained an access path. That is it maintained an index of the records in
the physical table(s) depending on specified view selection criteria -
including order of records.
Some time ago I...

Hello. I haven't used NetBeans yet and I haven't programmed much Java (I've programmed more in C++), but I have a question:
Can I get a data consistancy guarantee when writing to a file from Java if I use the NetBeans IDE package without using a large DBMS?
I mean, does Java standard classes or some NetBeans packages support some kind of...

Hello,
My new semester has started and I have a subject named DBMS (Database Management System). This is the first time I'm studying databases and so I'm not feeling very enthusiastic about databases (partly because I already had learnt C/C++ and I feel that programming is a lot easier that DBMS). Nevertheless, I must learn at least one DBMS as...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then...

I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in...
