Converting VB 2003 to VB 2005

I have seen some code in VB 2005 that will write a function to a
device:

me.serialPort1.writeline("[VER]")
How can i call this in VB 2003

my code is below:

Private comm1 As MSComm

comm1.Output = ("[VER]")

When i compile this i get an error. The VB 2005 Code works how can i
get my VB 2003 code to work?

Yes, the serial port BCL is avbl only from .NET 2.0.

You will have to use the Mscomm way to do it in 1.1.
