How to split a string into data that can be inserted into two different tables?

Heres the excel table im working with:

Mid
138-Engine Malfuntion
128-Low fuel pressure

The table needs to be converted to:

1st table:

Mid
138
128

2nd table:

Are you working in Excel or SQL Server? You need to be more explicit.

Clearly the answer is to link the two datasets in a SELECT query, but further details require the question to be there and not guessed at.
