SQL Server 2000: not enough storage is available to complete this operation

Hi all,

I'm getting this error when trying to import data from a text file into
SQL Server 2000 (Windows Server 2003) using the DTS import wizard.

Any ideas what could be causing this? There aren't any restrictions
(that i can find) on the file sizes etc.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that's an OS message getting passed through to the front end:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...kmsgs/3714.asp

Have you checked with Perfmon that you have enough free memory? And how big
is the text file relative to the system specs?

The server has 20+ GB of hard disk left, has 1gb of RAM and the text
file is 384 MB, i've not experienced this problem on our Win2000 &
SQLServer7 setup.

I will look into the link and let you know.

Cheers

As it turns out the problem lies with the DTS wizard when importing
text files it set the fields as varchar and a size of 8000!!!!!!!

I changed them (all 236 of them) to 255 and hey presto!

Found out the problem..... It turns out that DTS sets each field as a
varchar (8000) !!!!! changed all 236 fields to 255 and hey presto!
