Why two different views?

Hello all. I have an administrative account setup in Win XP Pro and I also
have a user account named "Jim Richards" (kinda logical, huh?). I previously
had to switch to the admin account to access the SQL Server Databases. Then
I gave myself admin privalidges to the SQL Server to the "Jim Richards"
account. I can now access SQL Server, update and change the database entries
(structure and data) from the "Jim Richards" account. But I get two
different views when I enter the Enterprise Manager and expand the Server
Group Line. Can anyone explain why I am getting two different views - one
which shows the Server name as "Local"

and the other which shows the Server name as "JIMRICHA" <a

Depends how you reqister the server with enterprise manager for the
account.
(local) is the default instance on the current machine.
If the machine is called JIMRICHA then they will access the same server.

You can get them to look the same by deleting one registration and
adding it again.

Thank you Erland Sommarskog and Nigel Rivett. I was able to delete the
registration that used the "LOCAL" name and I re-registered it with the
"JIMRICHA" name. Now both accounts use the same SQL Server name and I feel
much better. Again I thank you both. Jim
