How to handle NULL parameters,EMPT Y parameters and ERROR HANDLING in stored procedure

Hello,

I have stored procedure in which i am passing parameters (varchar(8000)) ,
these parameters can have values or can be empty (''), i have written blocks of codes for each parameter , which executes only if parameter has values, it should not enter the block if parameter is empty,
how to detect whether the parameter is empty or not.

and also i am having output parameter (varchar(1)) that is returned by stored procedure, if all of the parameters has values then output parameter returns some value, if any of the parameters is empty, then it doesn't go till the line where OUPUT parameter is set to some value, thats y no value is returned.
can anyone help me to sort out this problem.

Regards,

You can actually give default values to those parameters during creation/definition.

The following code works fine when previewing a Crystal report using ASP, EXCEPT when it gets to a report using a SubReport and its associated parameters. The whole report just comes up blank with this error message: "The Error Message was: Error detected by database DLL.from: Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer". What am I doing wrong in the SubReport section below and how do I properly pass in sproc params to the subreport? Thanks. ...

Hi, I've been working through a number of turorials to try to learn more about retrieving data from a SQL database. I think i've mastered techniques where i create a sql string in the page and pass it to the Db and retrieveing data from a stored procedure, but I can't get the hang of parameters. I have a method where I can get the parameters passed to the sp but it doesn't want to return any results. Here's a copy of my code:

I'm using SQL Server 2000 and on my page, I'm simply creating a SQLDataReader and filling in Labels with the retrieved (single) record. However, how can I prevent from getting errors when a field is null? I've tried something like this (experimenting with IsDBNull): ========================================================= If dtrData.IsDBNull("Address2") = True Then lblAddress2.Text = "" Else

Is it possible to pass a null value to a stored procedure in .net? I have a search Sproc that can take one of two numbers to search on, but not both. I use the code below to pass a null value to the sproc if a TextBox is empty. SqlCommand getLesNumbers = new SqlCommand(); getLesNumbers.CommandText="usp_getLesNumbers"; getLesNumbers.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; getLesNumbers.Connection = msoConn;

I think I have discovered a bug in the handling of null values (vs NULL values) passed as parameters to a stored proc. I have always believed that the database handled NULL and null the same. The following statement returns the expected results: select case when NULL is null then 'SAME' else 'DIFFERENT' end from sysibm.sysdummy1; returns SAME.

How do I pass a NULL value to a field while inserting records in a SQL Server 2005 DB table using a stored procedure? I tried the following but it inserts an empty string & not a NULL value: ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.Purchase @UserID int, @Total decimal, @Address varchar(250) = NULL, @Country varchar(50) = NULL AS

I am using vb.net 2005 and SQL server 2000. In my table I have a date field of type "smalldatetime". In my vb application, the user may or may not enter a date value into the appropriate text box. I then want to pass the value of this text box as a datetime variable to my stored procedure which inserts or updates the row. As I mentioned above, the textbox may be left blank - hence I would want to pass a null to the stored proc. How do I...

Although I can check for empty column (the following code passes string.Empty as parameter but how to pass null value?), I cannot check for null value...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
