SQL 2005 - linked server between 2 databases on one server

1 New Member
Have a question.

I have a table e.g. "Table1" on DB1 that is going to be archived once a month to "ArchiveTab le1" on DB2, both on the one server. Will have to change SPs that were accessing table1 to now access ArchiveTable1. This is no problem as I can just do the following: select * from db2.dbo.Archive Table1. Some time in the future this ArchiveTable1 will be moved to another server, and I wont be able to use: db2.dbo.Archive Table1. When this happens could use linked servers. Can linked servers be used between two databases on the one server. If so, how? This would therefore save me having to update all the SPs again ( to then access the linked server). Or is there any other way that I can approach this?
Using SQL Server 2005.

I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performance problems. Details: - Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project ) - Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBC I used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( who creates the commands?) creates and noticed:

I'd like to set up an ODBC DSN to a table in a linked SQL Server, via my local SQL Server. I'm having a few problems: 1. When I use Enterprise Manager to link the remote SQL Server, it doesn't allow me to select the database in the remote server. It only shows one database. 2. When I use the Data Sources program to set up the ODBC DSN, it only shows databases in the local SQL Server, not in the linked one. If I

Hello, all, I started out thinking my problems were elsewhere but as I have worked through this I have isolated my problem, currently, as a difference between MSDE and SQL Express 2005 (I'll just call it Express for simplicity). I have, to try to simplify things, put the exact same DB on two systems, one running MSDE and one running Express. Both have 2 Ghz processors (one Intel, one AMD), both have a decent amount of RAM (Intel system...

Since i cannot show the differences in a two-column like table. I am first putting MS SQL Server 2005 and then MySQL 5.x. All advanced features of a relational database are fully implemented. - Once you purchase the product, you are only limited to the Sybase-derived engine.

I installed the SQL Server 2005 SP2 update 2 rollup on my 64-bit server and the performance has tanked! I installed rollup 3 on some of them, but that did not seem to help. I thought it was just a linked server performance issue, but my optimization started running today on one of the "update 2" instances and so far it's been running about 10 hours longer than it normally

I have a 64 bit SQL Server 2005 SP2 on a Windows 2003 x64. The developer said that he needed to use OLE to talk to Oracle so I went to Oracle and downloaded the 64 bit OraOLDDB driver as recommended in a MS note. I can connect to Oracle via tnsping and using SQLPlus but I cannot create a linked db successfully. The linked database errors off with >Cannot initialize data source for OLE provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for Lined Server "X"...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
