Hi Waseem. I think it is always good to pursue a career in software development. Its easy to see that computers are not going to go away. They are just going to get faster, more ubiquitous, and permeate every facet of our lives. By "heights" I have to assume you mean "what are the good times like". Well, when ever I work for several days on a very difficult problem and write hundreds of lines of code, and still my code doesn't work that well that is a pretty low time. But then suddenly I see the solution and write only 20 lines of code that does everything better and faster then my hundreds of lines solution did, that is a pretty great experience. Another high time is when I see my finished product running on some hardware.

I'm not sure what your last question is about where to get software projects, but you can start by going over the tutorials on cplusplus.com.

Hi waseem.
First of all being a mechanical engg with bright prospects why u think of a carrier in software development.
What is wrong is your core business.
If u r getting bore in your line the same might happen to u in IT also after a couple f years years.
Its obviusly true that IT is going to stay here for ages till the human race survives.
But, don't think that life of IT people is so simple.
n Please don't go by the unnecessarily much hypes fanfare of IT related things.

An why u want to follow people blindly, being an engineer u r mature enough to take your carrier decisions.

If intrested try to develop your own software projects
