Though this is an old thread, I wish to correct this statement about Firefox as it is totally false. Firefox, along with Opera, are the most standards compliant browsers on the planet right now while IE, all versions, are nine years behind web standards. It's lead developer, Chris Wilson, stumbles over himself apologizing for IEs shortcomings...

Hey all, I am a young new programmer and one of my first assignments is to move our company's proprietary database to a SQL database, and then to a .net envoriment. The question I have is what would be the best way for me to do so. and if any one knows where I can find more information on this task, and where I can learn more about what the...

I may be way off here but I like to philologize anyway. Recently I've been learning about Java Generics. Then I got to thinking about how object databases haven't cought on. Obviously one reason is realational databases have been used for years, and are "Tried & True.". Then when I think on an object database and how encapsulation being...

Now, word on the street is our baby VB 6, mine anyway, will no longer be supported by Microsoft :-( That's fine, but here's what I need to know. Will new machines/operating systems hinder and harm our applications built in VB 6 in the near future? Please understand, I am all for change and having discovered VB 6 code can be updated to VB...

What exactly is the Component Object Model in regards to compilers and code? I know the textbook definition, but I'm not sure what it actually does and how it works. Is it a library of classes, or a windows service... or something else entirely? How exactly does COM interact with OLE, OLE Automation, ActiveX, and COM+? When I open up a .ocx...

All this stuff is making my head spin. Are there any really good books on it? I found some really good links for COM, but when I look up a practical guide for programming the stuff, everything just flies over my head. How did you guys ever figure it all out? BTW, I'll post all the things I find for people who are in the same boat as me.

I've been running some test on Safari and research as well. I've found it has many security flaws. Am I the only one that sees that Apple's attempt to compete against IE can be risky for users and their "security"?

Why would you ever want to create a button dynamically? A button seems like a pretty concrete thing to have in an application; it requires you to implement code that handles its events....and usually we want a button to perform a specific task (really I can't think of a case where this doesn't happen). So why would anyone want to create a...

I just started a new job, this is actually my first job out of college. The old programmer left the company abruptly and there was no transition between him and myself. I pretty much have a code base and naming conventions to try and piece this application together because he did not comment his code. There are no database diagrams to view...
