Why Python (a bit different)

Hi everybody!
I recently gave a little lecture to my collegues at University and
couldn't answer a nontechnical question of my prof afterwards. He wanted
to know 'why python', but not in the way 'Why should so. use Python?',
but meaning 'Why did Guido create Python?'.
I couldn't find a good ressource online yet, maybe so can give me a good
link or just the straightforward answer.
Thanks, Gerald

That is a very valuable suggestion. I thoroughly
enjoyed reading those interviews with Guido when
they were published on the site.
And not only because they tell about Python's origin.

And Bill Venners has some more interesting interviews there.
