Simple getting-started guide

Our open-source project (http://opensims.org) uses PostgreSQL as the
reference implementation, but we've found that the bulk of installation
issues have to due with getting PostgreSQL up and running. Is there any
kind of a 'quick-start' guide for getting PostgreSQL up and running? I'm
specifically thinking of something that would cover gotchas like not
enough shared memory or semaphores. Our only unusual requirement is that
a TCP/IP listener be configured since we're using JDBC.
