Perl for backing up configuration of Cisco IOS devices

I would need assistance is writing a perl script
that
identifies cisco IOS devices (router or switch)
identify an IOS capable device,
how to know it has been configured for doing backups,
where the backups get stored,
how to know the backups completed successfully

any help is highly appreciated

I have no experience with any Cisco device, but did a quick search on CPAN and found this module for managing those specific types. Hopefully either that module or the search results will give you a starting point.
