I had proposed this to an XML guy I know and he recommended against it

I currently have an XML web design implemented as flat files. I coul
create the whole site this way but it would be very time consuming
While this would be fine by me, my original idea was to create
cross-linked XML database that hid behind the scenes that the main XM
pages would pull data from.
If it is not in my power (as I do not run the server and the admin i
not able to change everything for me) to build it just the way I woul
like (cross-linked) then I could build many small xml data tables.
Let's say, for example, that my XML page needs to display 12 peices o
data for each database entry. I know I can get it to pull data fro
other XML files and propogate it properly, that is not the issue. Th
issue is that some pages will not have all the information for tha
object in the database. Let me illustrate.
Layout calls for 12 possible data fields.
Entry1 has all 12 fields in the DB and displays all information.
Entry2 has 11 off 12 entries in the DB.
Entry2 has 3 of 12 fields in the DB.
The question here: Is it worth it to build an incomplete database? Wil
it generate errors with the page? Or will I have to fill in the unknow
fields in the database with "N/A."
My dream (at the moment) is to build an HTML free database website, i
I have to do it with flat files then I can do that. However, if I use
an actual DB then I could also build future page types withou
re-entering data all over again into each XML doc. It would also allo
me to use an efficient search method.
