Hi,
Some people mix up a monitor/terminal with a PC, therefore here two of the
most used monitors there were
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3270_terminal
In the EBCDIC world
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VT100
In the ASCII world
Those had absolute no inteligence then how to transport a string to screen
and to the mainframe.
(There was in most of those some masking possibilities)

Vinu,
3 tier architecture is a way of developping from the time of the non
client/Server time (more from monitor to mainframe time)
There is a kind of simulating this on PC client by using multiple layers.
It is by instance not something Linq is direct designed for (you can do it
by creating a lot of spagettis software, but not my words you can use it).
I would in your ASPNET environment forget it until you spread your
development in teams for creating business rules and solely doing data
access parts and more of this kind of stuff.
