Confused on how to get the User ID

3 New Member
Hi fellow programmers!!!

I am new to .NET and C# and I seem to be a little confused on how to retrieve the logged-on user ID on my .NET app using C#. I am using VS 2005, Web Server, and connecting to another SQL 2005 server.

My code works fine when I use the code "Environment.UserName.ToString()" and if I am running on debug mode from visual studio 2005.

The problem starts when I move my application to the web server. It returns " NETWORK SERVICE" as the user ID. I am not sure if this is a configuration issue or a code issue. Your help is greatly appreciated....

Q1: Where is network service coming from?
Q2: How can I retrieve the correct logged user ID?

PS: The web server is set to use windows authentication.

Thank you!!!

Have you tried using

WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent() which will return you the current principle. The name property of the principle has the logged in user
