Upgrading my website from vs.net 2002 to vs.net 2005

I have a website I inherited. It was built in VS.net 2002. I have converted it to VS.net 2005. It runs great on my test server, but how do I replace my current website without screwing it up?

I am terrified of messing up my current website and I am afraid to do anything. I did try replacing the old files in my wwwroot folder with the new files. I then changed the ASP.Net version to 2 in the IIS Default Web Site. That did not work. (When I update my website, I always copy my updated webpages from the test machine to the web server. I also copy the projects dll to the bin folder). Fortunately I was able to undo everything and keep my 2002 version website running.

The website is on our old server. We do have a new server. Is there anyway to put it on the new server, leaving the 2002 version alone until I know it works?

I am great at building Windows applications, but not so great with Web Sites. I have been building webpage’s and adding on to it for the last 3 years, but I really need to upgrade it to 2005. The developer whose position I took over ran off with the VS.net 2002 installation disks. If something happens to my test machine, I am SOL.

Have you checked out the Publish option in the build menu?
That's the way I use to push my webpage to my server (it makes sure all the needed pieces make it over)
It does require you to turn on frontpage extensions for the desired location though.

Thank you for the response, Plater.

I tried that on the new server and then tried to open the web site with that server's IP address, but no luck.
