view state

Hello
I have prepared a website using C# and asp.net
After the user signs in his/her name should be always displayed on.
Of course the user will move different pages but these pages are targeted to a iframe.
now i want the user name on the page visible throughout even when the user moves for other pages.
I have been asked to use view state for this purpose.
Any idea how to do it.
Any sample code will be helpful.

Should have replied a long back ago.
I solved it using session.
Session["firstname"] = firstName.ToString();
Session["varid"] = VarID.ToString();

and then later on retrieved in other pages as

lblFirstName.Text = (string)Session["firstname"].ToString();
lblVarId.Text = (string)Session["varid"].ToString();
