access shared folder using specific credentials

Hello,

How can I connect to a shared folder/file located on a remote computer in a
workgroup environment. I can't use impersonation and LogonUserA() API
because that only obtains a local user token? I am trying to do this in
VB.NET.
I have also tried WNetAddConnection2() with a username and password along
with the CONNECT_INTERACTIVE flag set to prompt for a username and password.
This method creates a mapped network drive, which I do not want to do,
although it does work.
