Can't create web service with wizard in VS.NET

Opa
Hi,

Been stumped for many, many hours trying to create a web service project. I
greatly appreciate any help.

I get an error everytime I try to use the Visual Studio.NET wizard to create
a Web Service. The error is:
Visual Studio.NET cannot create or open the application. Website
'http://localhost/WDWS' not started on this Web server.

I first went into IIS (version 5.1) and created a virtual directory call
WDWS.
I started the server and am able to access some default pages through IE
with the URL http://localhost/WDWS/. So my local website is running ok.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I have Windows XP Professional
..NET Framework 1.1
ASP 1.1 ISAPI Filters

Thanks a lot.

may be you should start from within VS.Net, so delete the WDWS virtual
directory, then recreate this in VS.Net, this will be in wwwroot, so if
you want to remove to another folder, use inetmgr. then move all the
files, including the .webinfo into the new folder

I tried this first. When I try to create the Web Service, the Worl Wide Web
Publishing service stops. Any ideas of what is causing this?

So this means that you can't create a web service with any name other
than the default, and you can't put it in any other location other than
the default?
