Unable to register Visual Studio or Check for Upgrades

Hello everybody this is my first post, please forgive any etiquette errors.
Anyway I bought Visual Basic .NET, C++ .NET, and C# .NET all separately and
at the end of all three installs I selected register product. Upon making
this selection I was given an "Unable to connect to internet" error "Check
your web browser configuration settings and your connection hardware" I don't
understand why this is happening I have cable modem and can instantly connect
with I Explorer and check for updates with all other Microsoft software. Oh
yeah this also happens when I click on "Check for Updates" under the Visual
Studio Help Menu. Can anyone tell me how to fix this or just give me some web
addresses where I can register my VS.NET software? Any help would be greatly
appreciated, this isn't an emergency but it is extremely annoying to spend
hundreds on software that you can't even register...
