System.Web.Mail

Hi.

I know you can send an email using System.Web.Mail but other than using the
Outlook object, is there another way to read the email in an Inbox.

I'm currently reading the mail in an Inbox with the Outlook object. The
program works fine when deployed on my pc but when deployed to another server
I get a pop-up message saying "A program is trying to access mail addresses
you have stored in Outlook".

Other than getting some 3rd party software to resolve this issue, is there
another way to read email from an Inbox?

I've written similar software for Outlook object access. Its part of
Outlook's security settings. To the best of my knowledge, it cannot be
circumvented.

i tried adding my components to the GAC so theyre trusted, but even that
didnt work. Ultimately we had to stick to Outlook 2000, pre SR-1, because
that was the security update that implemented the dialog box youre talking
about - this update corrected a large number of security flaws.

Thanks for the information Elliot. I'm looking into using Outlook Redemption
- not what I wanted to do but from what you said in the email and what I've
read out there, what I'll probably have to do!

Hey Rita and Elliot,

I just wanted to drop a note thanking you for your thread. We have REALLY
been struggling with this issue. We ended up writing a .NET assembly that
uses the SMTP components to fire out email. It's an excellent performer but
you have to write your own address verification tools and there is not "sent
items" folder so if a user is involved in the process, they may never really
trust the email got sent. It is also a little challenging to integrate the
..NET assembly/component into V6. You have to do a lot more work in the .NET
code...but it's worth it. And if you are writing a service or some process
that runs unattended I would argue the .NET email is mucho better!! Just
remember to write rich error handling code.
