Slow conuming .net web service on Pocket PC 2003 PDA

I am just starting to learn web services and have written a simple web
service in VS.NET 2003 which returns a string + text entered into a textbox.

I am running the web service locally on a laptop running IIS 5.1 and
connecting to the PDA using an AD Hoc 54g wireless PCMCIA card.

On first execution of the web service it takes 10-20 seconds before the
string returned by the web service is dispalyed on the PDA application form.
Then after it takes 4 seconds to call the web service.

I do not understand why it is taking so long when the web service is only
processing one string. Can anyone help? Please find the form code below
which is calling the web service.

Thanks

private void button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{

String txt;
remoteComputer.Service1 ws = new remoteComputer.Service1();
txt = ws.HelloWorld(textBox1.Text);

Form2 frm2 = new Form2();
frm2.set_Label1(txt);
frm2.Show();
this.Hide();

}
