vc 2005 beta question

i have vc 2003 installed on my dev machine and was wondering if I can
install 2005 beta 2 on the same machine and have both working perfectly and
not interfering with each other?

TIA

Yes, you can. No problem at all.
What you CAN'T do is run beta1 and beta2 on the same machine.

May I ask why you crossposted this to a dozen groups including csharp and vb
groups if the question is VC related? Don't do that, it's not polite and
wastes other people's time.

yes you may - actually it's not a question specific to VC .. it's a *visual
studio* question, and that means VC, VB, C# et al .. I looked for a visual
stiudio-specific group but couldn't find one..

tip: please don't take it upon yourself to inform us of what is and isn't
polite on the Internet .. *that* is also considered to be impolite by many
including myself... nobody is forcing anyone to read my post.. let alone
respond to it..

Although you have one response indicating that the combination is safe (and,
it probably is), you may not be so lucky if/when you have to remove Beta 2.
In general, putting beta software on a production machine is not a good
idea. So, ask yourself if you can deal with the consequences if things don't
work out and you end up having to format/reinstall from scratch. I'd suggest
using Virtual PC, or setting up a separate partition for the beta.

There are several Visual Studio - specific groups. Look under:

If is wasn't a VC question, then why did you use VC 2003 in your original
post, where you should have used VS 2003, as in C/C++ starts with C and
Studio, in case you haven't noticed starts with an "S".

I hear what you are saying, sometimes though it's less stressfull to just
ignore these sorts of replies or just say thanks and leave it at that. I
used to get into all sorts of fights over this crap. These days I really

I have a full install of Visual Studio 6 Enterprise, a full install of
Visual Studio.NET 2003, a full install of Visual Studio.NET 2005 Beta 2 &
they all work perfectly well.

Is it really so hard to admit a mistake?

Just my 2 Euro cents...

Before Beta 2 did you have installed Beta1?
After Beta 1, 99% you will have a lot off trouble to install Beta 2, and
work properly!

Only if you don't follow the uninstall instructions on the MSDN site.
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/uninstall/

Even if, like me, you didn't follow the instructions (I don't read anything
important), there is a beta cleanup tool available which should fix the
problems.
