sorting sub-elements

Sorting nodes/rows

given the following xml:

<top>
<someelement/>
<someotherelement/>
<item>
<sequence>5</sequence>
<subitems>
<subitem>hello5</subitem>
</subitems>
</item>
<item>
<sequence>4</sequence>
<subitems>
<subitem>hello4</subitem>
</subitems>
</item>
<sequence>2</sequence>
<subitems>
<subitem>hello2</subitem>
</subitems>
<item>
<sequence>3</sequence>
<subitems>
<subitem>hello3</subitem>
</subitems>
</item>
<item>
<sequence>1</sequence>
<subitems>
<subitem>hello1</subitem>
</subitems>
</item>
</top>

We want to rearrange the <item> elements so that they are sorted by the
value in the subelements' <sequence> value.

We have tried doing this by using the XmlDataDocument component by
doing the following:

1. Copy the <item> table. This *does* copy the <item> table and its
children.
2. sort the <item> table rows using a DataView
3. Delete all <item> rows from the original table
4. Reinsert all <item> rows from the dataview in sorted order from the
copy of <item>

the problem is that the child data does not come over.

I hope this explains what we are trying to accomplish. Can anyone offer
any advice on how we might go about doing this?

Use XPathDocument (->XPathNavigator) and the XPath-Way of sorting, this
allows you to sort by any Element in the tree.
