Passing XML via linked server

When I execute the following stored procedure it should return XML output.

EXEC SALES.customer_db.dbo.spILD_homepage_sel '<homepage catid="777">
<billingcustid>777</billingcustid>
</homepage>'

It works fine on the SALES (local) server. I get something like:

XML_F52E2B61-18A1-11d1-B105-00805F49916B
<status>Invalid homepage info specified.</status>
But when I call it from the BILLING server (where SALES is set up as a
linked server), I get hexidecimal output like:

XML_F52E2B61-18A1-11d1-B105-00805F49916B
0x44004406730074006100740075007300010241....

How can I get XML output from a linked server?

Thanks
Dave

Hello, I am having a problem with linked lists. My program is based on a client server model. The client sends some packets of data to the server. The server reads those packets and is supposed to store the data in a linked list. It looks like everything works except for the fact that the linked list only stores the last value sent and...

Is the log-in information stored in the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
