AFAIK, and much to .NET developer's dispair, I don't think .NET is
installed by default anywhere..

If you understand why that is, please do drop me a note and tell me!

Even Windows 2003 will have an old Framework installed (1.x). It is always
advisable to get the latest (2.0 Beta 1 or Beta 2). Longhorn will also ship
with the Framework installed.

Are you sure about that? I installed it the other day and had to install
..NET afterwards. Perhaps I just missed the install option.

No, it's not always advisable to get the latest - not when you want to
be able to ship production quality software! While betas are
interesting to look at, they shouldn't be seen as being release
quality, and you certainly shouldn't be asking your customers to
install them.
