Limit the control's input length in a user friendly manner

Hi All,

I am working on a world ready application. I just want to know the best
strategy / strategies to handle the input length property of controls. The
key criteria is that it should be user friendly and it makes sure that the
data is not mistakenly truncated while posting to database, having in mind
that we are supporting multiple languages. Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Shahzad Atta
