Unable to install vb.net in Win XP Pro SP 2

I am trying to install vb.net 2002 standard on a machine running Win XP Pro
SP2. When I insert Disk 1, the installation software instructs me to insert
the "Microsoft Windows Component Update" disk. When I do this and click
continue, the installation terminates after about five seconds without a
message of any kind. How do I solve this problem?

I wish I had an answer because I also haven't been able to load vb.net 2003
on my new laptop with XP professional and serivce pack 2.

I was wondering if you were ever able to figure out the solution to your
problem as I am also experiencing the same problem when I try to install
Visual Studio 2002 Professional.

No, I've not found a solution. I'm going to try installing it under Virtual
PC 2004 since that would mean I would have the extra services running on my
laptop unless I was using Virtual PC.
