Problem getting ApplicationUpdater component to work

I downloaded the ".NET Client Applications: .NET Application Updater
Component" article by Jamie Cool along with the .Net Application Updater
component, and I'm trying to get it to work.

I created a blank form and added the component to the form. I compiled the
program, resulting in version 1.0.0.35885. I then made some changes, and
compiled again (version 1.0.1.22943).

I created the server manifest file, which I placed on the server, along with
version 1.0.1.22943 of the program. I copied AppStart, appupdater.dll and
version 1.0.0.35885 of the program to a different machine, setting up the
config file and the directory structure appropriately.

I invoked AppStart, which in turn invoked version 1.0.0.35885 of my program.
The Updater component did go out to the server as ZoneAlarm did prompt for
permission. Yet, the Updater component is not displaying its user
interface, or otherwise updating the program.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about troubleshooting this issue?
