All kinds of trouble with VB.NET and Office/Word

I'm trying to write a relatively simple VB.NET application to process a Word
document (go through the document, count the number of lines (not
sentences - lines), pages, ... )

In VBA in VB6, it wasn't all that difficult (I didn't write the whole thing
but I wrote enough to know that I can do it.) But in VB.NET I'm having all
kinds of problems. Like - BuiltInProperties doesn't seem to work. Or at
least when I call it, I don't get anything back - no matter what I give it
as a parameter. (I'm trying to find out the number of lines in the
document.)

So I was wondering, can I either:

1. Build my class in VB6 and then use it in VB.NET? or
2. Create a service in VB6? How difficult is that?

TIA for any help you can give me - Jeffrey.
