How to build satellite resources

I am working on localizing my webservice to return localized error
messages to our client app.

I have created 3 resx files, 1 for english (default), 1 for spanish,
and 1 for italian.

When I build my project the default english gets built into my
webservice dll and the other two are built into their own dlls in the
appropriate folders under bin\es-ES and bin\it-IT. All is well.

Now, the problem. We only want to store the .txt files that were used
to build the resx files and the subsequent satellite assemblies.

So, I created a batch file to do this for me and it does produce the
satellite assemblies as expected.
Here's the commands
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
2003\SDK\v1.1\B in\resgen.exe"
f:\dev\trunk\Fr ameworkClients\ ws\Localization \iQsystem.it-it.txt
f:\dev\trunk\Fr ameworkClients\ ws\Localization \ws.it-it.resources

"C:\WINDOWS\Mic rosoft.NET\Fram ework\v1.1.4322 \al.exe" /t:lib /nologo
/embed:f:\dev\tr unk\FrameworkCl ients\ws\Locali zation\ws.it-it.resources,Ce rtiport.Present ation.ws.iQsyst em
/culture:it-it
/out:f:\dev\trun k\FrameworkClie nts\ws\bin\it-it\ws.resources .dll

When I run my application the ResourceManager is unable to find or use
it.

Where did I go wrong?

Thank you

I'm trying to create a satellite assembly for my winform project but the resource.dll that gets created with the assembly linker (al.exe) doesn't get used when the language is specified. However, if I create the satellite assembly in VS by compiling the project with the the translated .resx file, then the resource.dll is used. My project has a default resource file embedded in it (strings.resx). I also have a translated version of the...

I am creating a c# class library project to be used by some exe clients. This library needs to be localized for its text messages using satellite resource-only assemblies; I have created the library with an embedded resource for the default language and a sample satellite assembly with strings for another language, plus a dummy test client application, but the library always falls back to the default resources. Here's what I do: could...

Guys! I've been playing about with some code trying to get the satellite assembly resource files to work. From what I understand you must have a fallback for a particular language, as well as specific regional variations of that language in the satellite dll. That, I can get to work.

Hi, I created an assembly (let's call it assembly (B)) that returns a localized resource for a given key (similar to System.Globalization.ResourceManager). I checks if the caller assembly (let's call it assembly (A)) has a satellite assembly (let's call it assembly (sA)) with localized resources. If it exists, it gets the resource with the given key and returns it, otherwise it reads information from a support database and dinamically...

I have recently migrated an ASP.NET 1.1 web application to ASP.NET 2.0. In this application I am storing all my resources in satellite assemblies and I am accessing them via the ResourceManager object. However, the ResourceManager is no longer returning the resources from the satellite assemblies; it appears that it is always using the fallback resource assembly (neutral); which in my case is the resource assembly that is embedded in the...

Let's say that I've built an assembly, called myapi.dll whose default resource messages are english. Then let's say I create a german satellite assembly for the assembly called myapi.de.resources.dll. However, let's say that I have a german client who is using both myapi.dll and myapi.de.resources.dll; however, they would like to override a single resource string from myapi.de.resources.dll. Is it possible for them to create a "satellite...

Hi all, This could get a bit complicated but I'll try to be as clear as possible. I've written an application that discovers plugins at runtime using reflection from a subdirectory of the application, eg: In the directory the application is installed to: \application.exe \plugins\plugin1.dll

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
