Auto-restart MySQL

Hi,

Trying to restart MySQL when it is down.

I have placed the following script in a file :

checksql --->

#!/bin/sh
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld status >/dev/null 2>&1
if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld restart >/dev/null 2>&1;
fi

And a crontab event */each several minutes that execute the script.

Problem : the script is not functioning.

+ :
- /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld status > return "stopped" or "started"
- Crontab event as configured launch correctly scripts (tested on a
send mail script)
- /etc/init.d/mysqld status or /etc/rc.d/mysqld status does not work.

I thank you for your advises.

Kind Regards

Why is mysqld stopping? That is not normal.
You should also find out why this is happening.

I don't know this argument to the mysqld init script. I'm running MySQL
4.0.20 in my current environment, and I use the contrib init script from
the MySQL distribution. Is the "status" argument a new feature in 4.1?

Another possible design for your checksql script might be to simply run:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld start

Because the script (at least the one with which I am familiar) with the
"start" argument is a no-op when mysqld is already running.
