Splitting a string by the '|' character

7 New Member
example: 1885-1974.|Johnson family|Frontier and pioneer life - Alberta - Black Hill district|Cadogan region (Alta.) - Biography|Black Hill district (Alta.) - Biography

I need to creat distinct terms of the example parsing the term on the '|' character.

Heya, mickpiper. Welcome (back) to TSDN!

Changed thread title to better describe the problem (did you know that threads whose titles that do not follow the Posting Guidelines actually get FEWER responses?).

Are you processing the string in MySQL, or can you do it in a separate scripting language, such as PHP? It is a LOT easier to process a string in this format in PHP than it is in MySQL, for example.

Thank you for the info about the threads I'm just getting use to this.
I will be processing the string using MySAL

Have a look at the substring_index function and see what it can do for you.
