functions

Hi,

I am developing applications using PHP and MySQL.

There are various functions in MySQL that is also implemented in PHP. Such
as date arithmetic, string, numeric, etc...

Do I get better performance if I do them in MySQL (or PHP) and why?

This depends on what you do and how you do it, so it can't be answered.
Also the versions of php and mysql might affect it. Use loads of test
material to test if you get any significant speed differences.

It depends on the situation. If you are pulling info from the DB running it
on a PHP function, then sending ti right back. Then it is best to do it DB
side.

But if you are taking info from a source beside the DB, ( but plan to put
it in the DB ), run the functions on the PHP side.
