How to encript data (password) before storing into MYSQL database?
data will be send from a jsp page to MYSQL database.how to encrypt data before storing.

Encrypt as you put it in the database. Read here:

You don't encrypt before storing, but while storing, such as:

$sql="UPDATE ...... psw=sha1('$psw'),uid='$uid' ...";
or
$sql="UPDATE ...... psw=PASSWORD('$psw'),uid='$uid' ...";

You didn't ask for a binary string encrypt! So you'd better store it in a binary safe field. Anyway good luck.

Btw, there is a commercial product out there called Security-GENERAL for MySQL from packetgeneral networks. It lets you encrypt the mysql databases transparently with loads of other mysql security features and enables mysql pci compliance
