I'd like to replace a field value but don't know the proper syntax. The
record currently has a NULL in the datetime field and I'd like to enter a
real value from the command line. (I'm just getting started with MySQL)
Thanks for any input...

I've got a table t with rows a,b,c,d,e,f
and a single index i on a,b,c,d,e,f
The query is:
SELECT * FROM t WHERE a="something" AND b="something" AND c="something"
ORDER BY d, e, f LIMIT 100;
now, table t may have millions of rows.

I have two tables, both containing an 'authors' column. Is there a way
to get a unique list of authors from the two tables?
I tried SELECT DISTINCT `authors` from `table1`, `table2`;
but I got an "Column 'authors' in field list is ambiguous" error.
Is there also a query to return only the count of distinct authors from
the two tables?

Any reason to suspect that ROLLBACK is not working for MySQL v4.1.10a?
Have reduced code to a very simple test, START TRANSACTION followed by
INSERT followed by ROLLBACK, but the INSERT remains.
Tried substituting SET AUTOCOMMIT=0 for START TRANSACTION, no effect, no
error.
Thanks.
