xmlhttprequests and firefox

25
I have been trying to figure out why my xmlhttprequest were working in IE and not firefox. I came across Firebug. I understand its an extension of firefox capabilities. Does this means that Firebug must be installed in order to carry out these requests? If so, how does one install it as windows does not recognise the installer extension .xpi?
