Java countdown application

hi there iam a newbie in java i dont have any coding exp in java...

And i have this task in my company to make an application in java which will be like a countdown application...

The details for this is like for example if i enter the current date the application should calculate the time and display how many years, months, hours , minutes & seconds are left for example Newyear or for christmas or for world cup to start or any festival...........

so plz i need the proper java code to do this.....
