utility of java in web based applications

blackgoat
Hi!

As a beginner in java, I have this query... I am curious where does a language like java fit in in a web based project? Client side programming or server side?? also what is the difference between CGI and VGI?? I hope someone can help!

Thanks!

@blackgoat
JAVA is not concerned with web applications.. its JSP

We use JSP,EJB,Spring JSF or Struts etc . for building Web Applications in J2EE Technology...
JAVA helps as a code-behind language for web applications for these technologies

Thanks!!

But I still have a small doubt... how exactly do your above mentioned tools differ in functionality with JavaScript or VBScript? And also what are the other various code-behind languages?

@blackgoat
There are no code-behind languages as such...

Different Web Developmental technologies such as ASP.Net, JSP, PHP, Coldfusion etc. supports a set of languages you can code in..

e.g.
ASP.Net currently supports three languages in which you can code asp.net applications... they are C#,VB.NET

JSP supports Java Language...

JavaScript or VBScript are client side languages used for processing server requests and client side validations...

You can use Javascript for almost any Web Developmental Language
