IE vs FF

Hi

Given 2 divs
..container {display:block;width:800px;border:1px solid #000}
..textdiv {display:block;width:600px;border 1px solid #F18}

In the HTML :

<div class="container">
<div class="textdiv">
*** some text ***
</div>
</div>

Why in IE container streches as textdiv expands and not in FF ?
How to make container behave the same in both browsers ?
TIA

The IE behavior is wrong; the outer container is not supposed to stretch to
the inner container's dimensions here. Also, divs are by default
"display:block;".

The answer to your second question depends on what you are actually trying
to do. As stated, both basic behaviors are incompatibly opposed.

"Container" holds the actual page and background. All the other DIVs will
have a transparent background so that, based on some criteria, the
background of the whole site could change. Plus, the BODY background is a
screensize image.

I'll have to find another way to achieve the FX I want.

Thanks
