Hello I want to insert an horizontal rule into my HTML page, but without using <HR> or <HR size=1>, as I consider it oldfashioned. Does anybody know a good way? Thank you very much.

The page which contains the inline frame has an orange background, the pages at 'www.externalsite.com' have a white background. Using a combination of HTML and CSS, what is the right way to quote? I'm using this in my blog: <p>My text.</p> <p><q>"This is a quotation."<br /> <cite>-- John</cite></q> </p>

I'm encountering some wierd behavior with a <link> tag over an HTTPS connection, vs. an HTTP connection... In an ASP/HTML page on my website, I've add a <link rel="shortcut icon"...> in order to allow the users to add a shortcut (with icon) on their desktop, as well as seeing the icon in the URL. Our development server allows both HTTP and...

I have a web page that uses an unordered list (<UL>) and the LH (list header) tag. I know LH is a valid tag because it is clearly defined by the W3C here: http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/html3/bulletlists.html The problem is, when I try to validate the page at W3C, it tells me: " element "LH" undefined " My page is 4.01 Transitional, using charset...

hi, is there a way (html/css/javascript) to force IE to print background-colors exactly as specified in html/stylesheets? I tried to use @media print { ... } to override IE's "print background colors + images" option, but it doesn't work. Any other idea? I'd like to avoid relying on the user for setting this option.

Apparently, surrounding an ordered list by a font command is illegal. So how do I specify the font style and size for the list elements? Putting font tags on each list item works, except that the list numbers don't display in that font. Invalid, but it works on all (most?) browsers: <font face="Arial" size=2> <ol> <li>List Item A<br>

I would like to know what others do to prevent line-breaks, using &nbsp; For example, the guidelines for the company have certain words (like "Model XY", where "Model" and "XY" shouldn't be separated. Fair enough, I use the non-breaking space for that. How about things like: - 10 to 100 KM/H - 7 to 8 years

Apologies for the partial post that mysteriously escaped as I was composing. I shall try again. For many years I have been happily and successfully coding tables such that the WIDTH specified in a TD is the complete column width including any CELLPADDING. For example for a 400 pixel wide table with four 100 pixel wide columns and 10 pixel...

Hi, Which browser has the best CSS paged media support? I'm about to write a business plan, which needs to be printed on paper to be presented to the bank. Now I cringe at doing this in Word, as I'm far more comfortable with hand-coding HTML and CSS(though I've never used the print-specific CSS elements).

In a monitoring app I have written, the message summary screen refreshes itself automatically every couple of minutes via the line <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="180">. The screen mostly comprises a table of single-line messages, and next to each a small status image (red for error, yellow for warning, etc). Normally in Internet...

In IE (at least from version 5), you can change your prefered language, so that for example the Windows Update page appears in another language than the system default. Here's the process: Tools -> Internet Options -> Languages -> Add (choose language from list) -> Move Up (move language to top of list)

I am designing my first site in html and neet to know something. When viewed in 800x600, the site is readjusting and squasing all the text - it looks awful. Is there a tag(?) that I can use to ensure this doesn't happen, i.e. - it just enalbes viewers to scroll left and right. Thanks....

This is perhaps a bit off topic for this group, but I am using Internet Explorer 6 and I have noticed recently that when I hold the mouse over an image the Alt text is not displayed like it used to be. Does anyone know why this is and how I can fix it so that the Alt text is displayed? Thanks, Stephen

About once a week, I post an FAQ pointer in this newsgroup under the same heading as this post. That pointer has two purposes: 1. To keep regulars from having to post the standard answers to standard questions again and again; if you have a standard question, you might save yourself some time by first reading the available material for this...

Really the table was a mind blowing hell to get what the 'customer' wants. Geez, whoever invented customers? Any way, it is supposed to appear as it is, text and 6 images, humungous ones at that. Again, the customer says, so what! tables, and rows, and table cells, table cells table cells, - oh my. Then more rows, and cells and cells of...

I'm thinking about helping out a local pet shelter on their web pages. In discussing it, I'm told that they write their web pages using FrontPage, which I gather is Megalomaniacsoft's web-page-authoring program. Looking at the source from those web pages, I see a lot of Java scripts and such being fired up, so I get the impression that it's...

Hello, My webpage looks fine on my computer using IE v6.0, but looks way mis-aligned on my friend's computer eventhough he is using IE v6.0 also. Why is this happening? I do remember his IE saying something about Virtual Java machine should be installed a while back, but not sure if this has anything to do with it. Any thoughts? thanks. ...
