Deep & Shallow Copy

Hi,

I am pretty confused with the concept of Deep copy and shallow copy. Can somebody please explain me this?

Well, Harry, some of the details may depend on which programming language you are asking about. But in general (from my knowledge of Python) a shallow copy will give you a new object. If that object contains references (pointers) to other objects, your new object will contain the same references. Modifying a pointed-to object in one copy will be reflected in the other copy. A deep copy, on the other hand, will traverse the references making new objects for each reference. You'll then have a true copy that can be modified without affecting the original.
