MS Word has automatically converted all my Word 97-2003 docs into PDF files that won'

While trying to convert a PDF document to Word, the system automatically started to convert all of my .docs files into PDF files. Word 2010 won't open the files without saving as -- and then opening with MS Word. However, when I go into my web based MS Word 2007, all the documents open correctly without the save as, open with download options. How can I reverse the settings in MS Word 2010 so that these .docs files go back to being fully .docs files?

right click on the file you want to open click properties
In the general tab click Change choose more options. if Word is listed in the list of programs choose it IF NOT navigate to the exe file msword.exe .
If you have more then one version of Ms Office installed you can also try removing all of them and reinstalling the latest one of the bunch office 2010 is backward compatible and will open older versions of office files
