as400 and sql via ODBC

Hello,
I've a big problem, i need to adapt this sql string:
SELECT ...
FROM T4
WHERE (((IsNumeric(Trim(Mid([T4.A],5,2))))=True) AND ((T4.B)=1));
for pass-trought query access connect via ODBC to AS400
I looking for several solutiones for the substring functions that is equal
to MID function
WHERE (SUBSTRING(CHAR(T4.A),5,2))
but IsNumeric functio exist?, Please help me!
